This is a software based serial port emulator that allows USB GPS devices to communicate with two or more applications at one time. Under Windows XP or earlier, the software works well with few.

Description:

The “SmartWye”™ family of PS/2 and USB Keyboard Encoders / Emulators make it easy to connect custom control panels, switches, and keypads to the PS/2 or USB keyboard port of a PC, by converting contact closures to standard PC keyboard codes. In addition to the switches, a standard PC keyboard may also be connected, and can be plugged in or out at anytime.
All 'SmartWye' PS/2 and USB Keyboard Encoders / Emulators fully debounce switch closures and openings, generate the appropriate key “make” and “break” scan codes, and then send them to the PC. On standard models, only one “make” code is sent for each switch closure, regardless of the time the switch is held closed. Type-O-Matic models (model number ends with -T) provide the key hold and repeat function common on standard PC PS/2 keyboards, and respond to the OS settings for Type-O-Matic. Key presses from an optionally connected keyboard, are cleanly multiplexed with any switch generated keyboard data. All models utilize Vetra's advanced keyboard emulation technology which provides error free boot up to the connected PC and operates transparently with all PC's, PC operating systems, and applications. We can also customize our standard PS/2 and USB Keyboard Encoders / Emulators (key mapping or board layout) to your needs or specifications. For more information contact us with your specifications.

Product:DataMan
Platform:DataMan 7550

Full Description

I have a DataMan 7550, and it is causing my computer to behave erratically after I put it in USB-Keyboard mode. It seems like the DataMan is outputting massive numbers of random characters to the keyboard port and is logging me into and out of Windows, hitting keyboard combinations, etc.

Solution

This is a known issue that occurs when USB-Keyboard mode is activated before disconnecting from the Setup Tool. To prevent it from happening, disconnect from the Setup Tool before scanning the USB-Keyboard code.

If the reader is currently in this mode, then it may not respond to any of the configuration codes. The way to fix the reader is to remove the battery and then hold down the trigger while reinserting it. Keep holding the trigger down until the DataMan beeps and the lights flash.

This will reset the reader to factory defaults and clear this mode. Note that the factory default settings for this reader do not put it in USB-Serial mode, so you will need to scan the configuration code for USB-Serial as well to get it to connect with the Setup tool.
